What a shopping centre environment demands from a kiosk
A shopping centre is one of the harder public spaces to put a screen in. It runs long hours, draws big crowds, floods with daylight in parts and gets cleaned constantly. Four demands follow from that, and each one changes what you buy.
- Duty cycle. A centre trades far longer than a shop or an office. A consumer television is built to run a few hours a day; a commercial display is rated to run the full trading day and often around the clock. That rating is the clearest single line between a directory that lasts years and one whose panel dims and fails early. It is the first spec to check, and the easiest to get wrong by reaching for a cheaper consumer set.
- Glare and brightness. A kiosk near an entrance or under a skylight competes with daylight. Beyond the touch type, three things matter for public use. A front glass thick enough to take knocks and daily cleaning, which is where the IK rating comes in. An anti-glare or optically bonded surface, so fingerprints and reflections don't bury the map.
